LeRoy Nance 89, of Clovis, NM, died on Friday August 18, 2006 at his home. He was the fourth of eleven children born to William and Helen Field Nance on September 17, 1916 in Mangum, OK.
In 1938, he moved to Clovis, NM and married Robbie L. Jones on April 1. He resided in Clovis, NM until the time of his death.
Mr. Nance, after 37 years of service, retired from Plains Regional Medical Center. He was employed at various jobs, which included Hotel Clovis and many Doctors offices. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
He was a member of the Patterson Chapel Methodist Church. He united with the St. John Baptist Church, where in 1958 he was ordained as a deacon under the late Rev. J. H. Horton. He served as President of the Laymen Board, President of the Senior Choir, superintendent of Sunday School, teacher of the men's Sunday school class and the B.T.U. men's class. He was also church custodian for many years. Wherever he was needed in the church, he humbly served.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Robbie L. Nance, February 14, 1987, three sons, Larry, Howard and Theodore Nance; son-in-law, Joe Gooden; one grandson, Lonnie Gooden; two great-grandsons; one great-grand daughter, Tamika; his mother and father; one sister, Velma Nance; and seven brothers, O'leary, Larry, Hanslee, Augustus, Richard, Marcellus and John Nance.
He is survived by six daughters, Bessie Faye Gooden of Compton, CA, Bertha Nance, Albuquerque, NM, Mary E. Nance, Sommung Nance, Marriann Ragsdale and Brenda Depperman all of Clovis, NM, two sons, William Winky and Preston Nance both of Clovis, NM; one brother, Jimmy L. Nance of Denver, CO; two sisters, Faustine Jackson of Sacramento, CA and Beulah Sumerall, of Denver, CO. He is blessed to be the grandfather of 32, great grandfather of 78, great-great grand father of 43, numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 25, 2006, at St. John Baptist Church with Rev. J. L. Callahan officiating. Burial will follow at Mission Garden of Memories.
