Lessie Nina Dickie Magness, age 97, of Farwell, TX and Elmbrook Estates in Lubbock, TX, died in Lubbock on November 30, 2008. She was born in Fayetteville, AR on September 1, 1911. She was the daughter of John Cary and Lillie Eugene McClung Banks. On September 19,1930, she wed Clyde Magness in Farwell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Magness, who died in Farwell on August 21, 1974 and a son, Phillip Don Magness who died in Clovis, NM on October 26, 1935.
She is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Herington of Plano, TX and a son, Cary Magness of Lubbock, TX; also Grandsons: Stan Herington, wife Cindy of Royse City, TX and Kenneth Magness of Lubbock and Granddaughter: Teresa DeSantis and husband Nunzio of Amarillo, TX; also Six Great Grandchildren and Five Great-Great Grandchildren.
Dickie was a charter member of the First Baptist Church in Farwell where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was an accomplished artist and owner of Art'n Such Art Shop where she taught oil painting and crafts to hundreds of area residents. Dickie enjoyed traveling on many Christian mission trips to El Salvador, Guatemala and Mexico. She delighted in anopen door policy at her home. Her daily routine was to open her front door after breakfast and then welcome the many guests who came to visit with her.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2008, at First Baptist Church in Farwell with Pastor Kyle Clayton officiating. Burial will be at the Sunset Terrace Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be J. R. Ivins, Leon London. Robert Fowler, Ralph Franse, Todd Lingnau and Robert Koehn.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the J.L. Bass Ministerial Scholarship Fund, CO First Baptist Church, PO Box 129, Farwell, TX 79325.
