Lois A. Burmeister, 88, formerly of Clovis, New Mexico, died Friday, July 13, 2012, at Kansas Christian Home in Newton, Kansas. She was born September 2, 1923, in Floydada, Texas, to Jesse and Ruth Giles Hawkins.
She married Emmett Thompson on May 17, 1943. He preceeded her in death. She later married Bob Burmeister on September 19, 1961. He also preceeded her in death.
Lois is survived by her son, Don Thompson, and wife, Stephanie, and granddaughter, Mariah Thompson, of Newton, Kansas grandson, Aaron Thompson, and wife, Brittany, and greatgrandson, Wilder, of Laramie, Wyoming brotherinlaw, Arnold Jolly, of Amarillo, Texas and many neices and nephews and their families.
She was also preceeded in death by two brothers, Ben Hawkins and J. L. Hawkins, and two sisters, Nellie Bonner and Tina Faye Jolly.
Lois was a graduate of the ScottWhite nursing program in Temple, Texas. She loved her many years as a nurse in a variety of settings, especially in the neonatal unit at the Clovis High Plains Hospital in Clovis, New Mexico.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the SteedTodd Funeral Home in Clovis, New Mexico with B.J. Brooks officiating. Interment will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis, New Mexico.
The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be left for Harry Hines Hospice in Newton, Kansas, in care of SteedTodd Funeral Home.
