Loyd, O. Franklin, 90, of Clovis, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at his home. He was born on April 3, 1914 in Turkey, Texas, to William B. and Ellen Franklin. brbrHis family moved to Amherst Texas where he graduated from Amherst High School in 1931. He joined a group of men and went to Honduras, Central America looking for gold. He worked as a funeral director, theater manager, and meter reader for the city. He married Dorothy Loree Humphreys on Feb. 16, 1938, in Lubbock. In 1942 he moved to Clovis.brbrDuring World War Il he was a member of the State Guard. He built the La Fonda Drive in 1952 and purchased the Yucca Drivein. In 1958 he built the Comet Drive-in on West 7th Street. In 1979 he sold the theaters and retired. He was a member of West 21st Street Church of Christ, the Lions Club, Elks Club, and the Committee of Fifty. brbrHe was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and four sisters. Survivors include his wife; two sons, George Franklin and wife, Diana of Clovis and Kerry Franklin Marsha of Denver; a daughter, Paula Churchman Ray of Amarillo; a sister, Violet Hennington of Lubbock; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.brbrCecil Bunch will officiate the services with Pete Reyna assisting.
