Lucille Foster

Lucille Foster, 89, of Clovis, New Mexico, died Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Plains Regional Medical Center. She was born June 29, 1921, in Bloomington, Texas to Ray and Willie Thornton.

She graduated from high school in Shamrock, Texas, and college at West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. She had also done graduate work at UNM, Adams State College and New Mexico State University. She began her teaching career in January 1942 in the old two story brick high school in Farmington, New Mexico. She married Sam Grey, a geologist for a seismograph company. Shortly after they were married they were sent to many different places from Mississippi to Montana. They had one daughter, Glenda.

In January 1947, she married Ed Foster. They had one daughter, Marsha. Ed worked for Southern Union Gas Company in Durango, Colorado, Flagstaff, Arizona and Albuquerque, New Mexico. They later returned to Farmington where Lucille continued her teaching career and retired from McCormick School. While living in Farmington she attended First Baptist Church. After her and her husband retired they moved to Clovis where she was a member of Central Baptist Church in Clovis. She enjoyed playing bridge, visiting friends and traveling.

She is survived by two daughters, Glenda Duncum Bob of Kyle, Texas and Marsha Merritt Ken of Clovis, New Mexico 4 grandchildren, Duane Duncum Nicole of Austin, Texas, Kendra Doyel John of Newport Beach, California, Kyleigh Merritt and Janna Merritt both of Phoenix, Arizona great grandchildren, Tyler, Bobby Rush, Benjamin and Cassidy Duncum and Karsen Beck Doyel sisterinlaw, Jo Thornton of Farmington, New Mexico and cousin, Evelyn Reid of Farmington.

She was preceded in death by her parents husband grandson, Bobby Edward Duncum great grandson, Austin Reade and brother, Glen Thornton.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 28, 2010, at Central Baptist Church with Pastor Alan McAlister officiating. Cremation has taken place.
