Lucille McDonald was born January 24, 1932 to Mary and Bob McDonald in Duncan Oklahoma.
Her father was killed in a car wreck while she was still young and the family moved to Clovis, NM to find work. Her mother earned a living as a cook in several cafés in the area and eventually remarried LK Ervin, a long haul truck driver. During WWII Lucille helped her mother pack parachutes at Cannon Army Air Base and attended Clovis High School where she graduated.
Lucille met Ralph Franse, the love of her life and they were soon married. There was a new war brewing in Korea and all young men who were not of age to fight in the last war were eager to test their mettle in this one. Ralph joined the US Navy and the couple moved to San Diego, California where he was stationed. Lucille's first son Steven was born while Ralph was serving on board the USS Badoeing Strait, an aircraft carrier escort. Upon her husband's discharge from the Navy the little family moved to Farwell, Texas where Ralph found work as a water well driller and pump installer.
The family soon grew to five as John and then Jim were born. Lucille was busy with all the activities associated with raising 3 boys, while her 3 sons were still in school. Lucille enrolled at ENMU in Portales, New Mexico and graduated with honors. She went on to teach in Farwell for thirty years and continued a masters and PhD Degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.
In her later years Lucille was busy with 1st Baptist Church, genealogy, National Poets Society and of course her dog, Boodo.
She is survived by her son Steve and wife Patti of Texico, NM, her son John of Montana, her son Jim and wife Wanda of Campbell River, British Columbia and numerous grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her lifelong friend and husband Ralph Franse.
Arrangements are under the personal care of the professionals at Steed-Todd Funeral Home and Crematory, 800 E Manana Blvd, Clovis, New Mexico (575) 763-5541.
