Margaret Huerta

On February 15, 2017, the angels came to take Margaret home. She passed away peacefully at her home. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Steed-Todd Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00pm. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Trinity United Methodist at 2:00pm, located at 1320 West 21st St. Pastor Darryl Tenefose will be officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Cemetery.
Margaret was born August 5, 1926 to Frederick Owen Britton and Cleo Baker Harris Britton in Frostproof, Florida. She spent many carefree days swimming and playing at the beach. She began her work career at a young age, volunteering during WWII and as a candystriper. She also worked at Webb City Drug Store before moving to Dallas, Texas. She worked at Titche Goettinger Department Store during its Hay Day years. While living in Dallas she met Jesse Huerta and on October 7, 1950 they were married. Following his military career, they moved to Clovis, New Mexico. She was a familiar face to many throughout the years working at Woolworth Dept., La Vista Restaurant, Silver Grill Restaurant, The Peppermint Stick, T.G. & Y, Poorboys Steakhouse, House of Fabrics, and J.C Penney which she had retired from in 1992. She was a member of the American Business Womens' Association. She had many hobbies that filled her days such as sewing, gardening, baking, reading, and traveling. She loved nature and found beauty in the smallest of things. Margaret will be missed by many.
She is survived by her 10 children, 6 sons, Jerry (Rita) Hastings of Arlington, TX; Kevin Hastings, of Clovis, NM; Mike (Nancy) Huerta of Clovis, NM; Joey (Penny) Huerta of Austin, TX; Scott Huerta of Clovis, NM; and Mark (Becky) Huerta of Clovis, NM; 4 daughters, Laura (Johnny) Landers of Sanger, TX; Mia (Joe) Wooten of Clovis, NM; Denise Reames of Clovis, NM; and Lisa (Ron) Durant of Clovis, NM; 1 brother, Fred (Jean) Britton Jr. of Haines City, Fl; 1 sister, Betty Lou Waters of Davenport, Fl; 28 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Cleo Britton; her husband, Jesse Huerta; a brother, Larry Britton; and 2 great-grandsons, Braden Larko and Thomson Smith.
Family will be at her home, 801A Walnut.
Pallbearers are her grandsons; Eric Hastings, Joe Wooten Jr., Jesse Wooten, Ryan Morrow, Jacob Huerta, and Jayce Huerta.
Honorary Pallbearers are Michael Landers, Jeremy Landers, Nathan Huerta, Benjamin Rozzell, and Nicolas Caballero.
