Marie Shadix Wall was born on August 3, 1917 to Henry Taylor and Nellie Jane Miller Shadix in their home three miles north of Hollene, New Mexico. Marie, as she was known by her family and friends, was raised on the family farm and graduated from high school at Hollene in 1935.
After graduating, she attended a newly formed college in Portales called Eastern New Mexico Junior College and later obtained her teaching certificate. She also attended the New Mexico Teachers college in Silver City for a brief time. After this, she began teaching at Center Community School. Sometime during the first or second year there, she was introduced to a young and handsome Willie O. Wall. The two fell very much in love and were married November 23 1940.
After Marie finished teaching that year she once again returned to the farm where Willie made his living but she continued to substitute teach throughout the years in the area and for many different grades. Willie and Marie were together through some of the toughest times this country has ever seen and in those times they leaned on the Lord and on each other. They moved around some as Willie made a living for his family and they farmed south of Clovis, at House, NM and finally back to the Pleasant Hill area. For 58 years they weathered the storms of life together. Along the way they were blessed with 3 girls: LaNeIda Jenoyce, Joquetta Eleanor and Marquitta or as we know them Nelda, Jody and Markie.
Marie was very involved in her church wherever they lived and their faith in Christ was a central part of their life. She taught Sunday school for many years to all different ages and she was active in the Womens Missionary Union as well as various other youth functions at First Baptist Church Texico where she was a member for 54 years.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life Willie Wall in 1999: two daughters: Jody in 2000 and Nelda in 1972 her brother: Glenn Shadix and one great granddaughter: Teresa Gutierrez.
