Marieta Faye Hoy

Marieta Faye Hoy, 71, of Clovis, NM, died Sunday, March 8, 2015, at the Retirement Ranch in Clovis, NM, after struggling for several years with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born March 8, 1944 in Littlefield, TX, to William G. and Faye Edwards (Burkett) of Maple, TX.

Marieta attended school at Threeway Schools (Maple, TX) and Morton, TX schools. She graduated from Morton High School in 1962. Marieta attended Lubbock Christian College (now University) in Lubbock, TX from 1962 to 1963. She transferred to Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM in the summer of 1963, where she received her degrees of Bachelor of Science in Education (Elementary) in June, 1966 and her Master of Education (Elementary) in August, 1969.

She was a second grade teacher for the Lovington Public Schools, Lovington, NM; for the spring semester, 1966. She started teaching first grade for Clovis Municipal Schools at Eugene Field Elementary School in August 1966. She transferred to Lockwood Elementary School when it opened in 1971. She taught first grade for 25 years with Clovis Municipal Schools.

Marieta attended 16th and Pile Church of Christ in Clovis, NM. She taught Bible classes, helped with Friday School and the youth program, and hosted the Singles Group activities.

Marieta married Robert (Bob) Hoy on July 30, 1976. They had one child, a daughter, Alison Shay.

She is preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Alan Burkett, and step brother, Jay Don Burkett.

Marieta survivors include her husband, Bob of Clovis, NM; a daughter, Alison (John) Maine and two granddaughters, Sydney and Teagan Maine, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; step-brother, Mickey (Alicia) Burkett of Dora, NM.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Thursday March 12, 2015 at Steed Todd Funeral Home. Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday March 13, 2015 at 16th and Pile Church of Christ, 1521 Pile, Clovis, NM. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis, NM

The family appreciates the staff at the Retirement Ranch for care provided to Marieta during her 18 months residence.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to be given to one of the following organizations or a church or charity of your choice in memory of Marieta.
