Mary Ballow

Mary C. Ballow, age 98, Of Clovis died March 11, 2012 at 2:20p.m.

She was born on September 22, 1913 sixteen miles northeast of Clovis, at Pleasant Hill to John T. and Minnie Moorman Curtis. She had one brother, Dean Curtis.

She began her teaching career by teaching two years at Pleasant Hill. She then transferred to Clovis where she taught twenty years and was an elementary school principal at La Casita for twenty years. She retired in 1973.

She married Ray Ballow, a Santa Fe Railroad Conductor, in 1940.

She was preceded in death by her parents: John and Minnie Curtis her brother: Dean Curtis and her husband: Roy Ballow.

Mary Ballow was a faithful and active member of First Baptist Church in Clovis for 79 years. She taught in every department and served in other capacities. After retiring, she traveled extensively, both at home and in other countries.

Survivors include two of her husbands nieces: Betty Richards of Austin, Texas and Phyllis De Feo of Placitas, New Mexico as well as several cousins in this area.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at SteedTodd Funeral Home, 800 E. Manana Blvd., Clovis, New Mexico.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Clovis, New Mexico with Rev. Eric Fields officiating. Interment will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis, New Mexico.

Casket Bearers are Kevin de Graauw, John De Feo, Drew de Graauw, John de Graauw, Bryan Jones, Danny Mitchell, and Sean Sena.

Honorary Casket Bearers are Eldon Jones, Tom Reese, Larry Morrow, Marlon Inman, Earl Riley, James Joiner, Paul Tankersly, George Hicks, Jimmy Joe Robinson, Paul D. Barnes, Lynn Martin, J.B. Taylor, Sanford Wagner, Larry Cloud and J. R. Jacobs.
