Mary Chavez

Mary L. Chavez, 71, of Clovis, New Mexico, died Sunday, December 1, 2007, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis. She was born December 9, 1935, in Dilia, New Mexico to Severo Victoriana Garcia Urioste.

She married Abelino Chavez April 21, 1952, in Santa Rosa, New Mexico. She was a longtime resident of Clovis where she worked for the Clovis Schools in Food Service at Bella Vista and James Bickley Elementary Schools. She retired after 27 years. The love of her life was her husband, sons and family. During her life she taught her family her strong faith. All the children she worked with over the years loved her and she loved them. She loved to cook at school and home and she loved music. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Abelino Chavez of the home in Clovis; 6 sons, Ricky Chavez Martha, Pete Chavez Grace, Gabriel Chavez Sara, Pat Chavez Diane, Abe Chavez Lisa and Dennis Chavez Maria all of Clovis; 3 sisters, Cecilia Nelson Victor of Palo Alto, California, Helen Montes Rudy of El Monte, California, Bobbie Madrid Luciano of Clovis; 1 brother, Mike Urioste Patsy of Clovis; 19 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 son, Andy; 1 sister, Sarah Garcia; 1 granddaughter, Victoria and 1 grandson, Johnny Joe.

Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Sotero Sena as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mission Garden of Memories. Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Pallbearers will be Severo Chavez, Elias Chavez, Isaac Chavez, Gabriel Chavez, Pete Chavez Michael Cruz. Honorary pallbearers will be all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
