Mary Ramirez

Mary Evangelina Ramirez, 56, of Portales, New Mexico, died Monday, October 19, 2009, at her daughters home in Portales. She was born September 23, 1953, in Portales to Tomas D. Manuelita R. Saiz Velasquez.

She attended Portales Schools. She was an excellent seamstress and had been a seamstress for Levi Strauss. She had also been a sales associate at Alco and most recently a store manager at Dollar General. She loved music, dancing and gardening. She lived her life caring for her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Apolinar Ramirez Sr.; sons, Apolinar Ramirez Jr., Ramon Ramirez and Leandro Ramirez; daughter, Leticia Ramirez; brothers, Jose Orlando Velasquez, Rudy Velasquez and Federico Garcia; sisters, Gloria Rivero, Anna Tarango, Mary Helen Rodriguez, Rosa Lee Velasquez and Macedonia Polk and 20 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Monica Christine Ramirez.

Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 22, 2009, at St. Helen Catholic Church in Portales with Father Sotero Sena officiating. Burial will follow at Portales Cemetery.
