Mary Carolyn Kitten Skarda, 91, of Clovis, New Mexico, died Monday, June 1, 2009, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. She was born January 21, 1918 in Paris, Kentucky to Sidney Mary Baird Ardery.
She graduated from Paris High School in 1935 and later graduated from Randolph Macon Womens College with a degree in Botany and a minor in French.
She married Langdon Lamar Skarda January 18, 1940, in Paris, Kentucky and they relocated to Clovis in 1946 where she lived until her death. They were married 54 years until his death in 1994. Throughout the years her home and family have been her main interests. She took up oil painting as a hobby which she enjoyed along with knitting, sewing, and various handwork.
She taught Bible at Central Baptist Church and many other childrens Bible clubs for many years. Following Langs death, she served on the Board of Directors at Citizens Bank of Clovis, until her death.
She is survived by her children, Sidney McMinn of Little Rock, Arkansas, J. T. Skarda of Alto, New Mexico, Lamar Skarda of El Paso, Texas and Francine Havens of Lubbock, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2009, at Steed-Todd Chapel in Clovis with Pastor Alan McAlister officiating. Burial will follow at Mission Garden of Memories.
Casket bearers will be her grandsons, Paul Maingault, Duke Skarda, Ross Henderson, Greg Skarda, Mike Skarda, Aaron Lee and William Bowman. Honorary casket bearers will be Lynell Skarda, Kent Carruthers, officers of Citizens Bank and deacons from Central Baptist Church.
