We are profoundly saddened to announce the passing of Matt Carter on April 30, 2024, at the age of 62. He was at the home of his cousin, Lee Sumner, who graciously accompanied him to his first Chemotherapy treatment and wound care treatment on April 29, 2024, in Amarillo, Tx. Matt died in his sleep overnight.
Matt was preceded in death by his father Dwayne Carter.
Matt is survived by one brother Dan Carter, two sisters Kathy Cohoon and Jennifer Warren, his mother Ann Carter. He is also survived by three nieces, one great niece, and four great nephews.
Matt's education and career varied. He has always loved music. While he was in highschool, he worked at Phillip's house of music in Clovis. He attended McMurry University in Abilene where he was a member of the McMurry Chapters. They even had a European Tour. He spent time on the McCormick in the Persian Gulf during Desert Storm. He studied electronics. Ultimately, he was led to health care. Matt's daily job was with clients through Absolutely You. He worked with them in their homes, in the office, the library, the grocery store, wherever they needed to go. He sang to them too.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to First United Methodist Church, Trinity Lutheran Church, or the Veterans Administration. Matt was the music minister for both of the churches as well as participating in multiple ministries with his voice and guitars.
Farewell my brother. May your journey be as joyful as our laughter together.
