Matthew Chance Rains
June 5, 2000 June 5, 2014
Matthew Chance Rains was born in Clovis, NM on June 5, 2000 to parents Clay Stuart Rains and Melissa Cheri Perkins. Anxiously awaited by big brother Stetson Chase Rains. He was a member of Parkland Baptist Church and had received the Lord as his Savior April 2009. Matthew means a gift from God. According to the provider, he should have never survived the first few days of life and something had to have been carrying his heart and we knew it was the hand of God. Matthew was truly our miracle. He entered, probably smiling, into the presence of God on his 14th birthday.
Matthew was known by the contagious smile he was always wearing. He was a member of Parkland Baptist Youth Group and Boy Scout Troop 411. Stetson and Matthew had a strong bond that became even stronger after Stetson received his drivers license and they were able to gain some independence. He enjoyed spending his summers at Grumpys Boot Camp with his brother Stetson and cousins Halle and Ryan Perkins. He loved being an active teenage boy and enjoyed watching sports. He followed the Texas Rangers and attended their games with his father and brother. Matthews favorite football team was the Green Bay Packers. Anytime he was asked where he wanted to go on vacation, it was always Branson, MO.
Survivors include, father Clay Janet Rains of Clovis, mother Melissa Perkins and brother Stetson Rains of the home, stepbrothers Nathan Kennard of Roswell and Jared Kennard of Clovis, stepsister Ashlyn DSpain of Tyler, TX, paternal grandmother Patsy Rains of Portales, maternal grandparents Rodney and Marietta Perkins of Clovis and many numerous close family members. He was preceded in death by paternal grandfather Olan Dutch Rains.
Memorial Services are scheduled for Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Steed Todd Chapel with Rev. Wayne Boydstun officiating. It is going to be a very casual memorial service. The family is going to wear orange to honor Matthew and we invite anyone else to join us. That bright, primary orange had always been his favorite color since he was a toddler. Please specify in memory of Matthew Rains.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of SteedTodd Funeral Home and Crematory, 800 E Manana Blvd, Clovis, New Mexico 575 7635541. You may also sign the online guest registry at www.steedtodd.com .
