Max Pena, age 80 of Portales, died Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at his home in Portales. He was born on May 23, 1930 to Frank and Antonia Chavez Pena in Encino, New Mexico.
Max was a Koren War veteran, and worked in construction as a supervisor and a brick layer. He retired from The Service Company at IBP, and went to work at Walmart in Portales. He loved gardening, tending to his flowers, playing the guitar and other instruments, and was a member of Victory Life Church in Portales.
He is survived by his wife, Priscilla Pena, of the home two sons, Dickie Max Virginia Pena and Steve Pena, both of Portales two daughters, Rebecca Bruno Lovato of Borger, TX, and Denise David Olivarez of Olton, TX five brothers, Frank Pena of Portales, Louis Pena of El Paso, TX, Segundo Pena of Portales, Felix Pena and Lorenzo Pena, both of Roswell, NM two sisters, Connie Chavez and Alice Jaramillo, both of Clovis, NM eight grandchildren 18 greatgrandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Max is preceded in death by two sons, Arthur Pena and Ernie Pena, one brother and two sisters.
A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 17 at SteedTodd Chapel in Clovis. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, February 18 at SteedTodd Chapel with Pastor David Lombrana officiating and Pete Jaramillo assisting. Burial will follow at Portales Cemetery in Portales. Casket bearers will be Frank Pena, Alex Lovato, Lano Lovato, Felix Pena, David Olivarez, and Matthew Pena. Honorary casket bearers will be Andy Pena, Armando Pena and Sam Smith.
