Mrs. Maxine Burroughs Sumrall, 77, of Clovis, New Mexico, died November 18, 2006 at
Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis. She was born February 2, 1929 in Silver Valley, Texas to Randolph and Rudy Burroughs. .
She attended grammar school in Goldsboro and Valera, Texas. She graduated from Coleman High School in Coleman, Texas. She attended Texas Tech University where she studied clothing and textiles. It was at Texas Tech that she met her future husband, Edward Sumrall. Edward and Maxine married in February, 1949. Maxine and Edward farmed and ranched west of Grady throughout their marriage. Maxine was an excellent seamstress and even as a child she would rather sew than do any other chore. She was also an excellent cook and for years prepared meals and took them to the field for the workers every day, not just during harvest time. Maxine stayed busy as a housewife and her family said she always kept an immaculate house. She and Edward also stayed active in the Grady Baptist Church. In addition, Maxine was a charter member of the Forrest Garden Club and Cattle Capitol Cowbelles. Maxine left Grady and moved to Clovis after Edwards death. She had been a resident of Retirement Ranch for 5 years.
She is survived by 2 Sons Alan Sumrall and his wife Barbara of Clovis, and Don Sumrall and his wife Susan of Silver City, New Mexico; 1 Daughter Suann Parrish and her husband Don of Plains, Texas; 7 Grandchildren Shanna Claytor Chris of Plano, Tx., Erin Van Soelen Fred of Clovis, Holly Massey David of Edgewood, NM, Lance Sumrall of Clovis, Christy Stockton Clay of Silver City, NM, and Blake and Troy Parrish of Plains, TX; 6 Great-granddaughters; and 1 Great-grandson; 1 Brother Glen Burroughs Virginia of Dallas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Edward Sumrall; and 1 Sister Jocile Best.HerHH
Pallbearers will be Lance Sumrall, Chris Claytor, Fred Van Soelen, Blake Parrish, Troy Parrish, David Massey, Clay Stockton, Max Best, Conner Best, and Corbin Best
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grady Baptist Church, or the Grady Schools Scholarship Fund.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at Grady Baptist Church in Grady, New Mexico. Pastor Rody Chesser will officiate. Burial will follow at Grady Cemetery.
