Mercie Steward

Mercie Lee Steward, age 80, of Texico, died on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at her home in Texico. She was born in Henderson, Texas on August l, 1931 to Rosie Berkely.

She received Christ into her heart at a young age. Mercie Lee united in marriage with Albert Steward on July 30th, 1964 and made their home in Texico, New Mexico. Mercie Lee was a housewife. She also cleaned houses and worked at a Nursing Home. She was a member of Living Word Ministries, Pastor Marie Jones, of Clovis, New Mexico where she served as an Usher, member in the Mission, a Mother of the church and a worker in the kitchen. She was very devoted to the Lord and very dedicated to helping others in her walk of life.

In the life that Mercie Lee lived, when someone needed her she was always there. She was a mother to many more than just her own family. If you needed a home, she would give you one and if you just needed a hug her arms were there for you. She walked in many shoes, shoes that no one else could wear. She passed on to be with the Lord on August 4th, 2011, leaving her household in order and golden years for all to remember.

Survivors include three sons: Bobby J. Steward and Joseph S. Steward, both of Texico, New Mexico, and Albert Steward Jr. of Clovis, New Mexico six daughters: Alma Maxwell of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Betty Gonzales and Marie Jones, both of Clovis, New Mexico, Carolyn Lash of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Geraldine Marlow of Amarillo, Texas, and Debbie Thoe of Texico, New Mexico two grandsons raised in the home: Brad Steward of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and Bobby Steward Jr. of Phoenix, Arizona 65 grandchildren, 93 greatgrandchildren, three greatgreatgrandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband Albert Steward, parents: Emard and Rosie Williams one daughter: Rosie Lee Carroll one son: James L. Steward and two grandsons, Little James Jr. Steward and Christian Steward.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 8, 2011, at the First Church of God in Christ in Clovis with Rev. Bryian K. Phillips, Sr. and Rev. W. Ronald Lash, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Terrace Cemetery in Farwell, Texas. Casket bearers will be Justin Steward, Tony Steward, Jordan Jones, Joshua Steward, Michael Lash, and Johnny Jackson. Honorary casket bearers will be Ronnie Vann, Lee Campos, James Hood and Roman Gonzales.
