Mildred was born on a farm near Macomb, Oklahoma to John and Eva Bliss on Feb. 1, 1917. They lived there until she was nine years of age. Her father became ill and needed to move to a drier climate. The move placed them in Grady, NM in 1926 where Mildred went to school. Mildred joined the Grady Methodist Church when she was 11 or 12 years old. She lived in Grady until she married Lee Merrill and moved to Clovis, NM in 1945.
Mildred was a charter member of Parkland Baptist Church where she was a member at her passing. She really enjoyed her church and church friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lee Merrill in 2000, and her only sister, Elsie Caughran in 2004.
She is survived by a son Lester Merrill and wife Anita of Clovis. Five grandsons: Mark Merrill Mike Merrill of Arizona, Steve Merrill Marcy of Amarillo, TX, Grant Morrison Erma of Albuquerque, NM David Merrill Rita Lewisville, TX and 2 granddaughters: Rene' Hartman Jeff Rio Rancho, NM and Gina Whitworth of Hendersonville, TN.
She is also survived by 14 great grandchildren: Dylan Merrill, Brandon Merrill, Allan Merrill, Paul Merrill, Garrett Merrill, Kyle Duncan, Shane Gibbs Jennifer, Brad Lewis, Kehley Merrill, Alexandria Sniegowski Andrew, Sarah Ferrell Shawn, Wendy Whitworth, Dana Jansen James and Jamie Whitworth.
Also surviving are a niece Tish Caughran of Albuquerque, NM, cousin Russell Johnson Janice of Lancaster, TX and several cousins near Shawnee, OK.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Parkland Baptist Church with Doug Brooks and Dr. Herbert Bergstrom, officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.
Casket bearers will be: Dick Gressett, Randy Dayhoff, Greg Nash, Bobby Essary, Jimmy Webb and Max Best.
