Mildred Florene Mitchell, 93, died Sunday, August 20, 2006 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis. She was born June 24, 1913 in Elbert, Texas to Mason and Dora Henry.
She attended elementary school in Perry, New Mexico and then graduated from House High School in House, NM. She attended the Church of Christ and was baptized when she was 17 years old in Mr. Mrs. Highleys stock tank. Mildred met Glenn Mitchell in high school and they were married November 27, 1934 in Portales, New Mexico. They farmed the land where they lived when they first married before moving to House where they ran a grocery store. After two years in House they moved to the Hill Ranch where they ranched for about ten years. They again moved back to House in the 70s where they retired. Although retired, Mildred continued to cook, can and quilt. She quilted over 130 quilts. She was a member of the House Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Troyce his wife Donna Faye and 10 brothers sisters. She is survived by 5 daughters Laquita Terry Lindel of Clovis, New Mexico, Carol Whitecotton Kenneth of Floyd, New Mexico, Jannie Hughes Lee Roy of Muleshoe, Texas, Ladonna Sinclair Ross of House, New Mexico, Glenna Fouts Ronny of Melrose, New Mexico; 1 son Royce Mitchell Kathy of House, New Mexico; 1 daughter-in-law Arlie Mitchell of Melrose, New Mexico; 27 grandchildren; 57 great grandchildren and 22 great great grandchildren.
Casket bearers will be her grandsons and honorary casket bearers will be her friends and neighbors.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Christian Childrens Home in Portales, New Mexico.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at the Methodist Church in House, New Mexico. Burial will follow at House Cemetery.
