Mildred Eva Butler Stephens was born December 1, 1910 in Blossom, Texas to Andrew Miller Butler and Emma Eva Overton Butler. She passed away at her home in Clovis on Monday, March 2, 2009. She spent her Childhood in the Hugo, Oklahoma area, and later moved to the Morton, Texas area. She met Cecil Henry Stephens in Morton area while he was farming there. They married in Portales on December 18, 1930. Early in their marriage they operated a caf at Maple, Texas. While working in the caf they purchased a farm west of Portales which they owned and farmed until their retirement. During World War II they moved to California where she worked as a Rivet Girl. After the war they moved back to Portales where they continued farming. She was an excellent seamstress, but her true love was quilting. She continued quilting until 5 years ago. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church while she lived in Portales. After Cecils death she moved to Clovis and lived with her daughter and son-in-law and is currently a member of Parkland Baptist Church.

She is survived by her Son-in-law Bobby Corder, three grandchildren Curtis Corder and wife Benna of Lubbock, Henry Corder and wife Sherry of Clovis, and Cecilia Maenle and husband Michael of Clovis. Six great-grand children and eight great-great grandchildren. One brother Kenneth Butler of California and one sister Bernice Ashley of Dallas, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, two brothers, one sister, her husband and daughter Sylvia Corder.

Services will be Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Parkland Baptist Church with Pastor Doug Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at the Portales Cemetery in Portales, New Mexico. Pallbearers are Dick Gressett, John Jones, Charlie Eldridge, Barry Kelley, Woody Taylor, and Billy Williams. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Dick, Brent Corder, Stephen Dick, Tip Fullerton, and Ryan Winner. Arrangements are under the direction of Steed Todd Funeral Home 800 E.
