M.S. 'Lamb Mackechnie' (1925-2017)

M.S. 'Lamb' Mackechnie, age 91 of Grady, NM, died Wednesday, February 2, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. A celebration of Lamb's life will take place at 10:00 A.M. MST at the Grady Methodist Church, Wednesday, February 8, 2017 with Pastor Greg Martin officiating. Graveside services will be at the Wheatland Cemetery following the 10:00 AM service.

Lamb was born August 11, 1925 to Stuart and Pluma Rodgers Mackechnie in Clovis, NM. He graduated from Wheatland High School. In 1944, Lamb joined the U.S. Marine Corp and served in World War II on the island of Okinawa, where he participated in operations against enemy forces for 45 days. Lamb married Echo Ware on July 3, 1946 and together they had five children. He farmed and ranched the family farm for over 80 years, in the Wheatland Community until his retirement. Echo passed away November 12, 1963. Later Lamb married Marie Lagrone, in 1991, and was married to Marie until her passing in 2014. He enjoyed horseback riding, driving around looking at the farm land, visiting with his many friends, and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of Kingswood Methodist Church of Clovis, New Mexico.

He is survived by his five children: Margaret McWatson of Ft. Collins, CO, Ronnie and wife Katy Mackechnie of Grady, NM; Jeannie Borders of Temecula, CA; Mike Mackechnie of Tularosa, NM; and Tom and wife Lynelle of Grady, NM. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Donna Walker, Willie Watson, Kodi Chapman, Miles Mackechnie, Martin Mackechnie, Jason Tucker, Justin Borders, Ty Borders, Caitlyn Towner, Amanda Lewis, and Millie Mackechnie. His great grandchildren are Krystle Loomis; Jaxon and Deveraux Watson; Hattie, Braly and Lettie Chapman; Colt and Stone Tucker, Cameron and Veda Towner, and Talia, Tiare Corpuz, Naupaka, Hina'ea, and Alexi Echo Borders. He also has numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stuart and Pluma Mackechnie; his wife and the mother of their children, Echo Ware Mackechnie; his wife Marie Franse Mackechnie; and his sisters Mary Ellen Burcham, Lillian Follis, and Toots Garrett. A special thanks to his care givers for loving our dad.

Pallbearers will be Martin Mackechnie, Miles Mackechnie, Baker Chapman, Travis Lewis, Eric Rush, Luke Towner, Darrel Bollinger, Wayne Carter, Dean Hodges, Gary Malone, Shawn Walker, Jason Tucker, Nick LeCompte, Jess Whitehead, Larry Whitson, and Jeremy Klein.

Honorary Bearers will be Hoyt Rush, Wayne Palla, Max Best, Winkey Hodges, Jim Sours, Jerry Sours, Tommy Williams, Wade Whitson, Rod Smith, Jerry Fulgham, Larry Fulgham, Pat Collins, Joel Marr, Toby Mitchell, Clay Stout, Mike Archibeque, Jeff Nunn, Rusty Read, Kit D. Pettigrew, Jim Ware and Danny Ware.

His special friends were Gene Pettigrew, Herschel Cogdill, Charlie Dobbs, Jerry Vick, Kent Carter, Bill Mote, Dale Vaughn, Kit Pettigrew and Max Fraze.
