Nona Murphy

March 10, 1919 — August 6, 2009

Nona Constance Luckett Thurman Murphy, 90, of Clovis, New Mexico, died Thursday, August 6, 2009 at St. Anthony Healthcare in Clovis. She was born in Grand Junction, Colorado March 10, 1919. She was raised in Clovis on a farm where Cannon Air Force Base is now located and attended Portair School there.

She married Arley Thurman in 1933. They went to visit Tennessee and moved near Obian, Tennessee. They lived across the road from the Refuge Church of Christ. It was the first time she learned about the Church of Christ. She was baptized during a Gospel Meeting in 1933. She placed her membership at the 16th Pile Church of Christ, and her husband was baptized in 1962. He died in 1965. She married Ira Murphy in 1967 and he died in 1979.

She wanted it to be known that she loved the church at 16th, and was proud to be a member. The 16th Pile Church of Christ is a great church, kind, loving, friendly, spiritual; a church that knows God.

She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and her church family at 16th Pile Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, several sisters and 1 brother.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 11, 1009, at 16th Pile Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.
