Norma Beazell

Norma Louise Nelson was born into the home of John F. Nelson and Sarah Dawson Nelson at 27 Scott Avenue, in Chautauqua, New York on September 28lh 1923. Norma was the youngest of 4 children. After completing high school she attended nursing school at the Buffalo Children's Hospital in Buffalo New York. She then returned to Chautauqua and on May 5"' 1946 she married Garrett M Mitchell Jr. at the Hurlbut Methodist Church. They had three sons, Garrett M Mitchell III in 1949, Norman Mitchell in 1951, and Thomas C. Mitchell in 1953. Norma held various jobs as the family moved from New York to Indiana and then back to New York. They also lived in Connecticut and Massachusetts where Norma was head nurse in the neo-natal intensive care unit at St. Vincent's Hospital in Worcester, Ma. They were active in square dancing and were past presidents of the Hayloft Steppers. Norma and Garrett retired from Worcester and moved to Stow, New York where they lived on the old family farm. They were active in the Harmony Historical society and the North Harmony Senior Citizens. Garrett Mitchell Jr. passed away in 1991 and Norma stayed on at the farm until 2005. On April 16th 2005 Norma married William H. Beazell and the newlyweds moved to Kingsport, TN. They lived happily there until 2014 when Bill was diagnosed with a terminal illness. At that time they moved to Clovis, New Mexico so that Norma would be close to her son Garrett and his wife Patty. Garrett's children also live in the area so Norma was able to see grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. William Beazell died in Clovis, NM on Jan 7th 2015. Norma continued to reside at the Senior Residence Center and then Wheatfields Assisted Living in Clovis, NM until she became ill and died on December the 5th 2018 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, NM.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and her sisters, her second born son, Norman, and both of her husbands. She is survived by her two sons, Garrett (Patty) Mitchell of Clovis, NM and Thomas (Dorothy) Mitchell of Severn, MD., Grandchildren Krista (Jose) Arguello of Clovis, NM, Kevin (Jinjer) Mitchell of Canyon TX, Great Grandchildren Alexis, Jordan, Kiele, and Aiden Arguello of Clovis, NM and Chelsea Mitchell of Canyon, TX and Great Great Grandson Cayson Mitchell of Canyon, TX. She is further survived by several nieces and nephews.

No local services will be held, cremation will take place and her ashes will placed with her first husband Garrett Mitchell in Jamestown, NY, at a later date. Memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
