O. Coffey

January 18, 1938 — September 15, 2006

O.B. Coffey, age 68, of Logan, NM, a devoted and loving family man was called home to his Lord and Savior on Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, while surrounded by his loving family. He was the youngest of twelve children born to J.L. and Clare Coffey on Jan. 18, 1938 at the original two-room house seven miles north of Melrose, NM. He had a typical hardworking boyhood on his parents farm and dairy operation. O.B. accepted Jesus at age 12 while a member of the First Baptist Church in Melrose and then was baptized at the church in Forrest, NM. He completed all twelve grades at Melrose where he was involved in Student Council and a sports standout. He was also active in F.F.A. in which he held state and district offices, with winning calves in the State Fair. After graduating in 1956, he went to Alaska. While there, he joined the Army Reserve. O.B. returned home in 1959, to marry his high school sweetheart, Kathryn Gibson, of House, NM at the First Methodist Church. They had two daughters, Debra Lynn, born in 1960, and Lisa Kay, born in 1963. From 1959 to 1968 he continued his education at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM, receiving degrees of Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education and Master of Education. While attending college he was a carpenter in the construction industry where he helped build many of the buildings on the ENMU-Portales Campus, in Clovis, and on Cannon Air Force Base. While in Portales, O.B. and Kay were active members of the First Presbyterian Church for seven years. After receiving their degrees, they moved to Clovis, NM in 1968, where O.B. taught in the Technology Department at Clovis High for three years. In 1971, he helped start the ENMU-Clovis campus and spent twelve years as Director of VocationalTechnical Education. During ten of those years the family resided in Texico, NM where the girls graduated high school. During this time they were active members of the First Presbyterian Church of Clovis for thirteen years. O.B. became a leading proponent of vocational education in New Mexico. Active in the NM Vocational Association for many years, he was State President in 1982. He became Vice-President of the Tucumcari Area Vocational School in 1982 and retired as President in 1995. O.B. and Kay then built their retirement home on the south shore of Ute Lake. They were active members of the First Presbyterian Church of Tucumcari, NM for 20 years. O.B and Kay did lots of traveling together to be with family. They participated in all their daughters activities and most of their grand-childrens. They were an inseparable team with lots of endeavors until Kay joined the Lord in 2002.

O.B. met Jeanie Leavelle Clancy in Ruidoso, NM. They considered their love to be a miracle of Gods love, grace and faithfulness and were married in 2003. They resided in Ruidoso for two years before moving back to the lake for a year, where they joined the First Baptist Church of Logan, NM. O.B. and Jeanie had three wonderful years together. They enjoyed pursuing photography and traveling together, and spent much time enjoying their large blended family.

O.B.s life revolved around family, work, church and working with his hands. A favorite love has always been his involvement with his children and grandchildren.
