O.L. Anderson

Mr. Othor Lang Jack Anderson, 91, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2011, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, TX. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Jack Anderson was born in Frost, TX on June 14, 1920 to Lang Lawrence Anderson and Jane Elizabeth Johnson Anderson. The family moved to Shallowater, Texas when he was three and he graduated from High School in 1938. He had two younger brothers, JR and Rex Anderson, who happily participated in the fun of living on a small rural farm. One of his favorite memories was when the three boys thought they would help their parents, who had gone to Lubbock for the day, by removing the thicket of tumbleweeds from the barbwire fence around their property. Wanting to be efficient and fast, they lit the weeds on fire and proceeded to start a grass fire. He recalled that half the town came with burlap sacks to help put it out.

After graduating high school, Jack attended Texas Technological College for two years before entering the Navy. He married Wilma June Burnison on October 22, 1942 and finished his Navy service in San Diego, California. He then returned to Texas Tech, and completed a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Masters in Mathematics . The public school system of Perryton, TX hired both Jack and June to teach in the high school, and Jack was later promoted to principal.

In 1951, Jack moved his family to Clovis, New Mexico after purchasing Duffys Camera Shop from Duffy Sasser. He owned and operated the business for 35 years, enjoying the opportunity to meet and serve people with knowledge and professionalism. His motto was, The customer is always right. For many years his daily routine included sharing coffee and laughter with friends at the Silver Grill. Jack sold the camera store in 1986 to devote himself to caring for June, who had been left weak from a prolonged illness. Considering it a privilege, he faithfully and lovingly cared for her until her death in March, 1990. They were married 48 years.

The Senior ministry at 16th and Pile Church of Christ needed a leader and Jack accepted the call. He arranged social functions and field trips to Palo Duro Canyon, the Caprock Amphitheater, and the San Antonio River Walk. He also organized the picturetaking process for the church directory. It was through these activities that he again fell in love, and he married Louise Simms on December 27, 1991. He took great pleasure in traveling with Louise, attending church, visiting family, and working in the yard. He was a kind and loving companion for 20 years. For many years, Jack and Louise read the Bible aloud to each other. He loved the Lord greatly.

Jack is survived by his wife, Louise, daughter Linda Watkins of Dallas, TX, daughter Judy Wilson and husband Mike of Matthews, NC, stepdaughter Mary Ann Cable and husband Ken of Clovis, stepson J Pike Simms and wife, Erlene of Roseburg, Oregon, and six grandchildren, Benjamin Watkins, Michael Wilson, Llala Wilson, Mitchell Simms, Barrett Cable, and Kara Copeland, and four greatgrandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Wilma June Burnison Anderson, brothers JR and Rex Anderson and by daughter Debra Anderson.

Services for Mr. Anderson will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at 16th Pile Church of Christ with Allen McKinney, officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.
