Ora Maxine Grau met Jesus and her loved ones on January 5, 2010 at her home in Grady, NM. She was born March 26, 1930 to Allen and Mabel Rich Bennett in their home west of Broadview. Maxine attended Grady High School until the age of 17. Maxine met and married A.L. Lloyd Grau of Grady on April 29, 1947. They made a home and raised their family 1 miles south or Grady until their deaths. Farming and ranching has been a family tradition with the Grau family since 1907.
Over the years, Maxine was a faithful and active member of the Grady Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and was involved in all church activities. She was also a faithful fan of the Grady Bronchos especially when her children and grandchildren were involved. Maxine loved the school and made education a high priority when raising her children. Maxine was also an active member of the Grady Alpha Extension Club for many years however, the majority of her time was dedicated to making a strong, loving Christian home. She loved caring for her flower garden and yard, painting, reading, sewing, and cookingto the delight of her children and grandchildren. She lived her life to the fullest and brought joy to all those who knew and loved her.
Maxine is survived by her two sons Wesley Elnabeth Grau, Lane Cheryl Grau, both of Grady four daughters, Linda Ty Powell, of Plains, TX Janet Grau, of Palmer Lake, CO Lura Lee of Fort Sumner, NM and Kye Chris Thomas of Clovis. She also leaves 15 Grandchildren: Lebert Amelia Powell, Jo Lena Chad Walls, T.J. Kretice Crowson, Jaree Walker Freeman, Meghan Blair Byrem, Micah Eric Black, Jimmy Lenita Lovorn, Mickie Paul Romeo, Dusty Ashley Lovorn, Colt, Katarina, Kaitlin, Kristen Grau, Caiden and Kylynn Thomas and 19 greatgrandchildren. Maxine was also survived by one sister, Olga Mae Chaffin of Elkhart, TX.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lloyd Grau, son Mark Grau, grandson Marcus Grau, sister Louise Marshall and brother Doyle Bennett.
Services will be held at 1 pm Saturday, January 9, 2010 at the Grady Baptist Church with Pastors Paul Burwash and Greg Martin officiating. Burial will follow at the Grady Cemetery. Dessert and fellowship with family and friends will follow the burial service at the Grady Baptist Church.
The casket will be closed at the church, friends may call at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 4:00 6:00 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2010 at SteedTodd Funeral Home.
Casket Bearers are her Grandsons and Grandsonsinlaw: Jimmy Lovorn, Dusty Lovorn, Colt Grau, Lebert Powel, T.J. Crowson, Caiden Thomas, Eric Black, Chad Wall, Blair Byrem, Walker Freeman, and Paul Romeo. Honorary casket bearers are the members of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class at Grady Baptist Church.
Memorial Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Grady Memorial Scholarship Fund, 3875 CR 0, Broadview, NM 88112.
The family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, and other caregivers who provided such loving care to Maxine during the course of her illness. We will not forget the kindness that you shared.
