Patricia Thomas

Clovis Patricia Kay Patti Hammond Thomas, 67, passed away on Thursday April 27th, 2012 at University of New Mexico Hospital. She was born in Hinton, West Virginia to Robert S. Hammond deceased and Jane Ellen Allen Hammond on May 13th, 1945. She is survived by her two sons, Dr. Jeffrey Thomas of Austin, TX and Dr. Brian Michelle Thomas of Denver, CO, her mother, Jane Hammond, sister, Linda Lewis Barry, and brother, Stewart Hammond Donna, all of Clovis, NM. Patricia graduated from Clovis High School and attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales NM, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in 1968. She spent her career as a secondary EnglishLanguage ArtsSocial Sciences teacher. She taught primarily in the Albuquerque NM School District, and finished her career teaching in Espanola, NM, She touched the lives of many students. She was voted Albuquerque Public Schools Teacher of the Year. She was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and taught in both Bulgaria and Russia. She spent one very cold year teaching in Barrow, Alaska. Patty was a member of the Red Headed Club at Espanola Middle School East and the President of the PTC club the Patty Thomas Club which included anyone who wanted to join. She served on several Leadership Teams. Patti was an active member of the NEA, the TIFF committee, and the Espanola Public Schools District PAC Parent Advisory Committee. She influenced her students by teaching with love and passion. Patti was an avid bridge player and won several national tournaments. She also enjoyed crosscountry skiing, reading, and cooking for her family and friends. Services will be held on Saturday, May 5th 11:30 am at St. James Episcopal Church in Clovis, NM at 1117 North Main Street.
