Paul graduated from Hollene High School in 1939. He played all sports offered, particularly basketball and track, earning the state champion pole vault title at the state track meet in 1938. He was also selected to the All City Basketball Tournament team in 1939. Soon after Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7, 1941, Paul traveled to Seattle, WA, to weld in the shipyards. In 1943, he joined the Air Force and was stationed primarily in Blackpool, England. While there, he repaired bombers after they returned from missions. After the war, he was in the Occupation Forces in Germany.
Paul married Lucy Ann Hardisty on May 14, 1948, in Clovis, with B.B. performing the ceremony. Aside from the years he served his country in the Air Force, Paul was a lifelong farmer in the Hollene community, where his grandmother homesteaded in 1906. Paul was one of the first farmers in the Hollene area to drill an irrigation well in the fall of 1953. Farming was an occupation he thoroughly enjoyed and was proud to be a part of a multigenerational farming family. One of his favorite hobbies was watching high school ball. He was an avid Texico Wolverine sports fan, and spent many hours watching area athletes compete all over the state. His favorite memories were cheering for his grandchildren, Holly and Mitch.
Paul was a kind and generous man who truly cared about those around him. He treated others with respect and compassion. He was a loyal friend and will be deeply missed by many.
