Memorial services for Pearl Lofton, 103, of Melrose, will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, July 6, 2006 at First United Methodist Church in Melrose with Alan Herman officiating. Burial will be at Mission Garden of Memories in Clovis at 11:30 A.M.on July 6, 2006. Steed-Todd Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Lofton died at Laurel Ridge Healthcare in Clovis July 2, 2006. She was born October 30, 1902 near Black River Village south of Carlsbad to Arthur and Etta Beach Forehand, both from pioneer ranching families. She graduated from Carlsbad High School and New Mexico Teachers College in Silver City and taught at Carlsbad, Black River Village, Hurley and Floyd.
She married Ray J. Lofton in Carlsbad August 21, 1929. They lived in Floyd, Melrose and Ft. Sumner, retiring in Melrose in 1966. Mrs. Lofton had been a resident of Laurel Ridge Healthcare since 1997. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Eastern Star, all in Melrose.
Preceding her in death were her husband in 1993 and brothers Roy and Elmer Forehand of Carlsbad.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law Betty and J. L. Wall of Clovis and Virginia and Burrell Martin of Artesia; grandchildren Cindy Herman and husband Alan, Donnie Wall and wife Nara, Gary Wall and wife Denise all of Clovis, Steve Martin of Lubbock and David Martin and wife Jennifer of Las Cruces; 8 great grandchildren Nathaniel, Isaac, Seth Caleb Herman, James Lauren Martin and Joshua Daniel Wall.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church in Melrose.
