Peggy Vaughn

THE LIFE OF PEGGY VAUGHN

Peggy Vaughn was born to Edna Pearl Hildreth and Jim Ballou on December 15, 1928.

Her mom was 37 and her dad was 57 when Peggy was born. Her dad died when she was 9 days old. He was shot in a bar room brawl on Christmas Eve, 1928. Was like the Hatfields and McCoys, a family feud between two families. Her mom died when Peggy was 2 years old from malnutrition and starvation. Her half-sister was Ollie Elizabeth Traylor (Mrs. Traylor). She took Peggy in and raised her until Peggy was 13 or 14 years old. Peggy and the Traylors had lived in Roswell until she was in 4th grade of school. They then moved to Belen. Frances (Traylor) Woods was their daughter. She married Raymond Woods. When Frances married Raymond, Mrs. Traylor canned all morning, washed and then put all her stuff in the car and drove away and never came back. She moved to Roswell. At 13 when Mrs. Traylor left, Peggy's best friends (Mary Lou) mom let Heleneta Blevins know that Peggy had no home. Helen asked Otis and her Auntie what they thought. They said it was OK if they took Peggy in to raise. Betty Lou was 2, Bob was 8 months and Jim was not born yet.

On April 15th, 1946, Willis Monroe Vaughn married Peggy Ann Ballou. They lived in Belen until March 1952 when they moved to Clovis, New Mexico. They had 2 children. Jerry Willis was born on February 1, 1951 and Linda Kay was born on January 27, 1956. They both graduated High School. Jerry married Debbie Manley in 1973. Debbie had worked at JC Penneys since the 1970's. Their son Eric was born in 1975. Jerry passed away in 1998. Debbie married Jerry Woods February 14, 2006. Linda married Randy Beevers in 1978. She has worked at Citizens Bank of Clovis for 38 years. Randy worked for the Curry County road department for 25 years and retired. Their daughter Christi was born in 1980 and their son Jeremy was born in 1984.

Peggy went to work for Kingswood Methodist Church for 17 years as a nursery worker. Eric works in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Christi married Michael Reid in 2002. Their son Austin Matthews was born in 2003. Christi has worked at Citizens bank for 12 years. Jeremy married Melanie Finch in 2005. Their daughters are Erica Nicole was born in 2005 and Adrianna Grace was born in 2009. He has worked at Walmart for 15 years.
