Philip Gillespie

Philip S Gillespie, 89, of Clovis, New Mexico, passed away on November 4 in Clovis, New Mexico.

Visitation will be Friday, November 6 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Steed Todd Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, November 7, at Kingswood United Methodist Church with Layloni Drake officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Cemetery. Arrangements are by Steed Todd Funeral Home

Philip was born in Sweetwater, Texas to Philip Gillespie and Jessie Myrtis Gillespie on March 15, 1926. He went to school at Ropesville, Texas. He married Wilma Jean Copeland on February 9, 1948 in Lubbock, Texas and graduated Ropesville High School. He was self-employed as a custom home builder until his retirement. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Navy in the South Pacific. He was Leader of Boy Scout Troop 226 for a number of years. He served the community as a volunteer fireman in Muleshoe, Texas for many years and was a member of J.C.s in Muleshoe during that time as well. He served as a member of Methodist Men's Fellowship at Kingswood.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Jessie Gillespie, daughter, Teri Lea Gillespie, his sister, Mateline Bizzell, a brother, Donald B. Gillespie and grandson, Trace Shealy.

Phil is survived by his wife of 67 years, Wilma Jean Gillespie, daughters Phyllis Horne (John, El Paso, Texas), Jeri Sargent (Larry, Lake Dallas, Texas) and Karen Shealy, (Clovis, New Mexico), 7 grandchildren, Shannon Horne Adams, Amy Denton Marshall, Krista Denton Wealick, Taryn Horne Hunt, Erin Sargent Sims, Lisa Sargent, and Sarah Sargent Patterson. 15 great-grandchildren, his sister, Wilma Blanks and sister, Beth Harding.
Honorary pall bearers will be his great-grandchildren.

The family will be at 2305 Lomas Place, Clovis after the services.

The family wishes to extend their thanks to Wheatfields Senior Living Community, Gentiva Hospice Care, and Dr. Brian Willmon and staff and Kingswood United Methodist Church.
