Funeral services for Raymond Lee Magness will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2012, at Living Stones Community Church, 1800 N. Norris, Clovis, New Mexico with Pastor Darwin Speicher officiating. Casket bearers will be Charles Armstrong, Mike Burdett, Paul Daugherty, Jim Hobbs, Brian Jones, Tim Moyers, Eddie Smith and Gary Young. Interment will follow at Oklahoma Lane Cemetery. Visitation will be at SteedTodd Funeral Home, 800 E. Manana Blvd., Clovis, New Mexico. He died at home in Clovis, New Mexico on January 13, 2012.

Raymond was born July 27, 1924, in Vernon, Texas to Chester and Amy Magness. He was the second oldest of eight siblings and considered The Leader of the Pack, when it came to his brothers and sisters. Most of his days growing up were on Oklahoma Lane, Texas. As a young boy, he helped his family work the farm and became an excellent horse trainer. Raymond served in WWII in the Army. He was a member of the 1306 Combat Engineers which was attached to the 101st Airborne, Glider division and Special Forces. After returning from the war, he continued to work the family farm and train horses. On July 31, 1946 Raymond married Harriett Irene Baker. Their marriage was blessed with two sons: Michael Stephen and Tony Shan who were raised in Clovis, New Mexico. He later was employed in the oil field industry. During his oil field days he moved about Texas searching for oil as a Doodlebugger. In 1958, he returned to the Clovis, NM area where he worked as a mechanic for Max I. Meadors BuickChevrolet and later became Service Manager for the dealership. In the years following, his main occupation was as a Service Manager at various dealerships in the area. He also continued to train and raise Quarter horses most of his adult life amongst various other jobs. Raymond knew Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and had a daily relationship with Him. On December 24, 2008, Raymond married Olga Maria Sterling and lived his remaining days with her in Clovis.

Raymond was preceded in death by his father: Chester his mother: Amy his wife: Harriett four brothers: Earl, George, Leon and Max one son: Steve and one grandson: Nathaniel Shane.

His survivors include Ray Joanne Magness of Roswell, NM, Wessie White Pat of Clovis, NM, and Carolyn McGrew John of Horseshoe Bay, TX his wife, Olga Maria of Clovis, NM and one son, Shan Magness also of Clovis, NM two grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews. He also has stepchildren as survivors which include Larry Sterling of Columbia Falls, MT, Mitchy Sterling of Sturgeon Bay, WI, Monty Sterling of Bozeman, MT, Nathan Sterling Sabina of Belgrade, MT, Alexander Sterling of Rifle, CO, Daniel Sterling Breanna of Aurora, CO, Michael Sterling Katie of Littleton, CO, Nancy Fischer Nick of Clovis, NM, Audrey Wilsey of Green Bay, WI, Lisa Mitchell Raymond Lee of San Diego, Can and Christine Dalrymple Mark of East Greenville, PA, and fortyeight stepgrandchildren and thirtyone stepgreat grandchildren.
