Refugia Ponce

Refugia H. Ponce died on November 16, 2013 at Kindred Hospital in El Paso, Texas. She was born on July 4, 1908 in Jimenez, Chihuahua, Mexico to Juan and Enriquetta Hernandez.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Brigido Gallo, and Antonio Ponce, son Luciano Gallo, sisters Hilaria Amaro and Antonia Valdez, both parents, stepfather Castulo Mejia and grandson Michael Ponce.

Survivors include a brother Socorro Mejia of Ponderosa, NM, son Toby Ponce and wife Margie of Tucumcari, NM, daughter Lupe Soto of El Paso, TX, son Jerry Hernandez and wife Rose of Clovis, NM, fourteen grandchildren, twentyfive great grandchildren, twentyfour greatgreat grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces and friends.

She spent most of her life living in Clovis, NM. Her last thirty years she lived in El Paso, TX with her daughter Lupe Soto, who cared for her with great diligence. She was a sharing and caring individual willing to share, as many attest to her wanting to feed all who enter her home. Fearless in her endeavors, though they were minor in measure, yet grand in the heartfeltwarm love she expressed in her advice and courage to stand alongside one in times of trials.

A Rosary will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Steed Todd Funeral Home, 800 E. Manana Blvd., in Clovis, NM. Funeral services are at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 22, 2013 at Templo Bautista de Belen, Ninth Street Reid, Clovis, NM with Jess Cantu officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens, In Clovis, NM. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren: Carlos Soto, Sebastian Soto, Lupita Soto, Tina Gallo, Jeremiah Harper, and Socorro Hernandez.
