Reta Mae Akers, 77, of Clovis New Mexico was called home by our Lord, peacefully at home, on 29 July 2018.
Reta was born on June 27, 1941 in Fresno, CA, and spent some of her youth in Bakersfield, CA. As a young girl she moved to Clovis, NM, with her parents and two brothers.
Her Grandfather and Grandmother Patterson homesteaded North of Broadview, NM. Her Grandfather and Grandmother Gillis were Weatherford, TX, Ranchers who retired to Clovis.
Her parents, Daniel and Nellie Gillis, and one grandson; Drue C Akers preceeded her in death. She is survived by; her husband, Billie R Akers, four children: Sheila L McFatter of Splendora, TX, Samuel D of Clovis, Stuart R of Buda, TX, and Scott E of Clovis; two brothers: Donald L Gillis and Olan L Gillis both of Clovis; six grandchildren: Ruben, Claire, Conor, Callum, Andrew, and Journi, and three great-grandchildren.
Reta was a Secretary, Stenographer, Administrative Assistant, and Administrative Specialist during most of her career. She retired from New Mexico State University, College of Arts and Sciences, Biology Department. Her prior positions included: The Physical Science Laboratory, at the Desert Ship, White Sands Missile Range NM; Judge Advocate General United States Army Kwajalein Atoll/Kwajalein Missile Range, Marshall Islands; NMSU College of Business Administration; NMSU Agriculture Economics/New Mexico Department of Agriculture; Eastern New Mexico University Placement Office; and the American Quarter Horse Association. She retired to Clovis where she and her husband own and operate Akers RV Park on East Grand Street. Reta enjoyed her children and grandchildren, neat yards, and flowers, working in stained glass, and oil painting.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 4th, 2018 in the Steed Todd Funeral Home Chapel. She will be interred at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens, Clovis, NM.
