Richard Jones

Richard Slaton Jones, a lifelong resident of Clovis, passed away peacefully on Thursday September 10, 2009 in Lubbock, TX. Born in Clovis on July 3, 1921 to Sam and Katherine Jones, he graduated from Clovis High School in 1939 and attended NMMI and NMSU before entering the US Army in 1942. Richard served with the 103rd Infantry Division in Germany where he was awarded the Purple Heart.

He married Lois Chambliss in Brownfield, TX, on September 29th 1946. They were married for 53 years before her passing in 1999. Richard owned Consumers Supply, a farm machinery business at Grand and Pile, and worked in the Procurement Division at Canon AFB until he retired. After his retirement, Richard was a realtor.

Richard was always active in the 1st United Methodist Church of Clovis, and in 1951 became a second-generation member of Kiwanis, where he remained involved until two years ago. He especially enjoyed working at their Annual Pancake Breakfast. Richard was also a member of the American Legion Dean Lucas Post 25 and many other community organizations.

He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his family; Dick and wife Lorraine of Santa Fe, Mark and wife Patty of Tucson, AZ , Kathy Jones and Gil Archuleta of Taos. Grandchildren Sarah Jones and Ali Agirnas of Albuquerque and Jeremy Jones and wife Desiree of Virginia Beach, Virginia and two great-grandchildren Jacob and Elise Lois.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 10:00 at the First United Methodist Church in Clovis with Rev. Harry Riser officiating. Burial will follow at Mission Garden of Memories.
