Former New Mexico resident Robert Hoyt Clifton, 82 died August 14, 2012 at John Peter Smith Healthcare Hospital in Fort Worth Hospital in Ft. Worth, Texas, with his family by his side.
Hoyt was born March 12, 1930, in Lindsey, Oklahoma, to Elsie and Belle Clifton.
Hoyts life would seem too short to many, but those were touched by him, understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quality of time in which one lives. His gentle smile, genuine love, and care for people brought so much joy to his family and friends.
Hoyt served 26 years as the Director of the Bureau of Elections for the state of New Mexico, during this time he also served on the Federal Bureau of Elections. He traveled to Russia when their government was changing from Capitalism to Socialism, helping in the voting process. In 2003, Hoyt received the New Mexico Distinguished Service Award for his great works in the state. Hoyt was the symbol of New Mexico elections for the political insiders for 20 years. He wrote the election code and knew election law like no other.
Hoyt spent more than 56 years in New Mexico with his wife, Ethelyn, where they enjoyed many wonderful trips and family gatherings.
He is survived by his three children, Aaron and Kitty Clifton of Marlow, Oklahoma Brock and Cathleen Clifton, of Bowie, Texas and Rhonda StocktonDeckard and Danny Deckard of Clovis, New Mexico eight grandchildren eight greatgrandchildren and a special friend, Jean Hatch of Bowie, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethelyne McCasland Clifton SonInLaw Danny Stockton his brother, Richard Clifton and his parents, Elsie and Belle Clifton.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 20, 2012 in the Melrose Cemetery in Melrose, New Mexico with Doug Brooks, officiating.
