Robert LeRoy Doane, age 103, died at home in Denham Springs, Louisiana, on August 7, 2008. Bob was born in Jasper County, Iowa to his parents, Orville and Anna Doane on July 9, 1905. He grew up on an Iowa farm with his brother, Bruce, and sisters, Nellie and Mary. He graduated from high school in Gilman, Iowa in 1923 and moved to Marceline, Missouri in 1926 to begin his long career with the Santa Fe Railroad.
After being transferred to Clovis in 1927, he married his wife Frances in 1939. Bob retired from the railroad in 1972. He became a very active member of the Optimist Club and served in numerous capacities as a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Clovis. In 2000, he moved from his home in Clovis to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to live with his daughter, Lonna.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Frances; sisters, Nellie Dixon and Mary Brayton; and brother, Bruce Doane. His survivors include his daughter Lonna Doane Willingham of Denham Springs, Louisiana; two granddaughters, Jana and Bart Crowder of Dallas, Texas; and Teri and Jeff Alm of Las Cruces, New Mexico; six granddaughters, Sydney, Lauren and Ashley Crowder all of Dallas; Alicia and Heather Passig of Ruidoso, New Mexico; Randa Alm of Las Cruces, New Mexico; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Lance Clemmons and Rev. N. Scott King officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be on Monday, August 11, 2008 from 10:00 to 8:00. Arrangements are under the direction of Steed Todd Funeral Home 800 E.
