Romane Ray, 79, of Clovis, died Sunday, April 23, 2006, at Plains Regional Medical Center. She was born Dec. 28, 1926, in McAlister to Leroy and Lenora Green. She won several medals for all-tournament play in Texas and New Mexico as a basketball player. She scored more than 80 points in one game and was asked to join the All-American Redheads basketball troupe. She worked in Tucumcari at the First National Bank. She married Troy Ray on Dec. 24, 1947. in Clovis. Together, they farmed and ranched in the HouseMcAlister area She drove a school bus for House schools for several years before her husband retired and they moved to Clovis in 2002. Family members said she was a caring woman, a great cook, and an avid sports fan.brbrShe was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Dennis and Donald; a brother, Wayne Green; and an infant sister, Ada Ruby. She is survived by two daughters, Karen Franklin and husband, Derrell of Hagerman and Jan Shoemaker Eddy of Ima; two sons, Jim Ray Cathy of House, and Darrel Ray of Clovis; two sisters, Coleen Morrison of Apopka, Fla., and Shirley Daniels of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three brothers, Stanley Green of Chicago, Wayland Green of Clovis arid Ronald Green of Corrales; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.brbrServices will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the Steed-Todd Chapel. The Rev. Fred Caton will officiate. Burial will be at Browning Cemetery in Quay County. Lance Franklin, Stoney Shoemaker, Casey and Dyron Ray, Terrill Stowe, Barry Dixon, John Everitt and Chris Cavett will serve as pallbearers.brbrFamily members suggest memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association.brbrArrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home.br
