Rosemary Burns

Rosemary Head Burns, 89, of Clovis, died Monday, January 24, 2005 at Plains Regional Medical Center. She was born April 14, 1915, in Santa Rita, New Mexico, to Elam L. Head and Elva Schmidt Head and was the oldest of five children. brbrRosemary was raised on a ranch, attended school in Santa Rita, and graduated from Hurley High School in 1933. She graduated from New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, in 1937 and did post-graduate work in Social Studies at UCLA. While attending NMSU, she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and was involved in the ZTA Alumni Association for her life time. Also while in college she had the distinction of being the first woman editor of the NMSU Newspaper.brbrShe worked in Dallas as a Social Worker before moving to Lubbock, Texas, in 1940 to become the first Girl Scout Council executive there. Rosemary moved to Clovis in 1947 to continue her Girl Scout work. In 1949, she married James F. Burns, a local realtor, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clovis.brbrJim and Rosemary raised five sons while being active in Church, community and the boys' sports activities. She was an active member of Encanto Garden Club where she became a national flower show judge. She was also a member of Sacred Heart Altar Society.brbrShe is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James; her parents; and one sister, Kathryn Budnik of Deming, New Mexico.brbrRosemary is survived by five sons, Shaun Mary, Timothy Grace, Patrick, Denis Ann, and Kevin; nine grandchildren; a brother, Bill Head Pat of Santa Rita, NM; sisters, Betty Ely of Silver City, and Elayne Banks of Lubbock, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.brbrFuneral Mass will be at Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, January 29, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. with Rosary on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m., also at Sacred Heart.brbrThe Burns family welcomes friends to visit at Rosemary's home, 1425 Gidding, on Saturday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.brbrArrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home, 800 E. Manana, Clovis, New Mexico 88101.
