Roy Lee Richardson, 83, of Pleasant Hill, died Friday, May 1, 2009 at Plains Regional Medical Center. Services will be held Monday, May 4, 2009 at 10:00 AM MST, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church 291 SR 77, with Brother Jim Peabody officiating. Burial will take place at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens, Clovis, NM. Pallbearers will be Leon Kelley, Gerald Whitener, Kyle Cain, Mark Peabody, Ricky Armstrong, and Lynn McDaniel.
Roy was born September 10, 1925, near Carter, Oklahoma to Ervin and Lillie Pryor Richardson. He moved with his family to St. Vrain, NM in 1930. He attended school at St. Vrain for 8 years and graduated at Melrose High School in 1943. He participated in sports, FFA, and drove a school bus.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1945 and served in the 32nd Infantry Division of the Eighth Army, participating in the liberation of the Philippines and was assigned to reconstruction during the occupation of Japan.
After the war, Roy returned home to Melrose, NM and began farming. He married the love of his life, Lola Fay Wall, on January 16, 1949. In the fall of 1950, they purchased a farm and moved to Pleasant Hill, NM where he spent the rest of his life. He was baptized and joined Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on May 4, 1952. He was an active member throughout his life, serving on the Deacon Board and as Church Treasurer.
Roy was a charter member of the Pleasant Hill Volunteer Fire Department and served two terms on the Texico School Board. In 1977 he was named Honorary FFA Chapter Farmer. He also served on the boards of Clovis Memorial Hospital and Farm Bureau.
PRoy and Lola loved to travel and were life time members of the Good Sams Travel Club. In 2002, they received the Golden Halo Award from the N.M. Good S
