Royce F. Miller Major, USAF, Ret, 91, of Clovis, NM, died peacefully Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at home. He was born March 26, 1920, in Shirland, Illinois, to Fay R. and Florilla Miller. He grew up and graduated from high school in that small farming community and worked for the Firestone store in Rockford. He joined the Army in 1940 and was then accepted into the cadets of the Army Air Corps in 1941 where he was commissioned and so began his lifelong love of flying. He flew many kinds of planes but his favorite was the B57. He earned many decorations, including the Distinguished Flying Cross, during his career. He and his wife and children moved all over the country and world during his 28 years in the Air Force. After retirement he sold real estate in Albuquerque before moving back to Clovis in 1978. He was a member of Kingswood United Methodist Church in Clovis. He is survived by his son, William Miller of Missouri his daughter, Nancy Barrow Terry of Clovis four grandchildren: Kevin Barrow of San Francisco, CA Lisa Barrow Juan Rascon of Albuquerque, NM Bryan Miller Katie of Slaton, TX and Jody Miller of Clovis 5 greatgrandchildren 1 greatgreat grandchild and 4 nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Pearl M Miller, in 2007. Also preceding him in death were his parents, his brother, Maurice Miller, and his sister, Hazel Miller Greene.
Services with full military honors at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 31, 2011, at SteedTodd Chapel in Clovis. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.
