Funeral services for Ruthie Ruth Marion Cox, 90, of Clovis, New Mexico will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at Steed-Todd Chapel with Rev. Lester McDonald and Rev. Roy Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Mission Garden of Memories.
Casket bearers will be Ralph Dick, George Hutchison, Lamon Wilson, Gorman Hand, Wayne Kilgore and Chris Killgore. Bill McAdoo, Earl Lamb, Alvin Richards, Harold Fechter, Ron Kline, the lunchroom ladies and all the staff at Retirement Ranch will serve as honorary casket bearers.
Ruth was born September 9, 1917 in Tolbert, Texas to Marion and Rena Simmons. She died December 15, 2007 at Retirement Ranch in Clovis. On February 16, 1935 she married the love of her life, T. J. Cox. They lived in the Vernon, Texas area for several years and later moved to Portales. In 1953 they moved to Clovis and have resided here since that time. She worked at LaCasita and Cameo elementary schools in the lunchroom. She had many friends among her coworkers and the children. Her favorite thing in the lunchroom was to make the bread.
In 1946 Ruth accepted Jesus as her Savior in the Gospel Mission Church at Portales where Rev. M. C. Rains was pastor. She joined The Church of God of Prophecy in 1948 and held many offices in the church. She was church secretary and treasurer for ten years. Her favorite job was to visit members and friends and encourage them in their spiritual walk. She worked for foreign missions. Ruth loved to sing and was in Pappy Thorntons Old Timers Band and later in Mayme Days band. They sang and played music in the area nursing homes.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cora Nell and Ralph Dick of Albuquerque and Teresa and Wayne Kilgore of Clovis; five grandchildren, Mitchell Dick of Albuquerque, Beverly Shock Ralph of Las Cruces, Donna Lollman Mark of Kansas City, Missouri, Debbie Watkins of Waco, Texas and Chris Killgore Sandra of Lubbock; five great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and friends who will miss her greatly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband who died November 5, 1985; one brother; three sisters and a great granddaughter, Terri Lynne Kilgore.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Baptist Childrens Home or to Calvary Baptist Churchs Lottie Moon Christmas offering.
