Ruth Smith

Ruth Smith, 90, of Clovis, died Monday, September 13, 2010 at Clovis Healthcare Rehabilitation Center in Clovis, New Mexico. She was born on June 25, 1920 to Atha Pat and Ruth Depoyster Wright in Louisville, KY.

Ruth met and married Malvin H. Smith on August 1, 1944 while working at PrattWhitney in Louisville during World War II. She supported his military career, moving to numerous states and countries throughout their marriage, and retired in Clovis. She loved taking care of her family, collecting books, and was an avid doglover. She was also an amateur photographer, a bowling instructor for the American Junior Bowling Conference, and a volunteer at the VA Clinic. Ruth owned and operated the Wee Barons Daycare in Clovis in the 1960s, and was an active life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

She is survived by her son, Larry Smith of Clovis daughter Nancy Chaney of Eddy, TX 5 grandchildren Laura Smith of Lubbock, TX, Charles Judy Goble of Eddy, Reynold Saive of Eddy, Patty Larza of Eddy, and Alex Saive of Florida one greatgrandchild, Naomi Fenton of Lubbock nephew Larry Cooper of Frederick, MD and numerous other family members.

She is preceded in death by her husband Malvin on August 28, 1986 her sister, Mary Jane Cooper and her brother Burt Wright.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 17 at SteedTodd Chapel with Father Sotero Sena officiating. Cremation will take place. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1856, Clovis, NM 88102.
