Simon Vincente Vigil, 62, of Clovis, New Mexico, died Friday, November 14, 2008 at the VA Medical Center in Amarillo, Texas. He was born November 9, 1946 in Clovis to Guadalupe and Sylvia Martinez Vigil.
Simon was a paratrooper in the U. S. Army for three years. He was a very dedicated and honorable member of the AmVets Post 13 and The American Legion Post 25. He was a lifetime truck driver, loved dancing, listening to all kinds of music, and watching western movies John Wayne was his favorite
He is survived by his mother, Sylvia Vigil and companion Jose Lujan who was also a good friend and caretaker of Simon of Clovis; companion Pearl Moreno of Clovis; 3 sisters, Grace Gandarilla Jose of El Paso, Texas, Julia Armijo Henry of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Louisa Armijo Reynaldo of Clovis; 3 sons, Vincent Vigil of Albuquerque, Raul VigilLucero Denae of Edgewood, New Mexico and Anthony Apodaca of Las Cruces, New Mexico; 2 daughters, Stella Valenzuela of Los Lunas, New Mexico and Gloria Vigil Danny of Albuquerque; 12 grandchildren; 9 nieces and nephews and 23 great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; 1 brother, Herbert Vigil; grandmother, Vicenta Martinez; grandfather, Casiano Martinez; uncle Abel Esquibel; aunt Erlinda Peralez and granddaughter, Sariah VigilLucero.
A rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, November 17, 2009 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Clovis. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Sotero Sena as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mission Garden of Memories in Clovis.
Casket bearers will be Olan Bryan, Alfred Rubio, Ramon Harris, Richard Esquibel, Jackie Don Thomas and Johnny Ulibarri. Honorary casket bearers will be his children and family.
