Steven Darrel Benedix, age 72, of Clovis, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at Clovis Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born on December 31, 1938 in Baudette, Minnesota, to Ernest and Alice Nielson Benedix. The family moved to International Falls in 1949. Steven graduated from High School there in 1956. He joined the Army Reserves and spent six months active duty in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri in 1956 and 1957, and served until 1964. He worked in the Insulite plant for Boise until 1967.
On February 23, 1960, Steven married Marilyn Mae Noggle in International Falls. They had four children. In 1967 they moved to the Minneapolis, St. Paul area where Steven became employed with Univac which then became Sperry Rand and eventually Unisys. He worked there until 1993 in a production control capacity. In 1986 he and Marilyn were divorced, and in 1992 he married Valerie Jean Letendre. In 1997 they moved to Clovis, New Mexico.
He was a great Nascar fan and, before illness curtailed his activities, he enjoyed travel, camping, and riding his scooter.
He was preceded in death by his father Ernest, mother Alice, sister Jo Ann Mathews, and a son Steven Allen.
Steven is survived and will be missed by his loving wife, Valerie, of the home son, Darrel of Fridley two daughters, Sandra of Alexandria, and Susan of Los Angeles one brother, John, and one sister, Elsie, both of International Falls and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 25, 2011 at SteedTodd Chapel with Rev. Vaughn Gossman officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Eriksburg Cemetery in Minnesota.
