Sybil Lorene Harden Roberts, 85, of Clovis, New Mexico, passed away Thursday, May 6, 2010, at her home in Clovis, surrounded by her loving family.
Lorene was born June 4, 1924, to Isaac J. and Edna Chitwood Rutherford at the family home near Broadview, New Mexico. Lo was the sister of Aline, Doyle and Leonard Rutherford. She attended the Ruth, New Mexico Elementary School and in the eighth grade started high school in Grady, New Mexico. It was at Grady High School that Lorene met and dated T. A. Jr. Harden whom she married on July 6, 1941. Lo and Jr. started the Twin Cronnie DriveIn in Clovis in 1952 and operated this Clovis landmark until 1978 when she sold the drive in to her nephew Clint Harden, Jr., who operates the drive in today. In 1943 Lo and Jr. Harden became the parents of Bobbye Darlene followed in 1946 with the birth of Thomas Allen Harden.
Always known as a devout Christian and active member of the 21st Street of Christ, Lorene was a superb cook and a devoted wife and mother. Lo loved her children and grandchildren. Her single passion outside of her family and church was playing bridge. She was an active bridge player in several local groups as recent as this year and will be missed by her many friends and family.
After the premature death of her husband T. A. Harden in 1976, Lo lived alone for 17 years and then married Grayson Roberts of Texico on December 29, 1993. Lorene and Grayson enjoyed a wonderful life together until his death on December 11, 2005.
Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, sister and her husbands.
Survivors include daughter, Bobbye D. Brown Jimmy of Angel Fire, New Mexico, and grandchildren, Sandra Lynne Brown Mark of St. John USVI, Jamie Darlene Brown of Angel Fire, Christie Leigh OHanlon Barry of Montrose, Colorado and son Thomas Allen Harden Charlotte of Clovis and grandchildren Tyler A. Harden Emily of Azle, Texas, Tiffany Lorene Jenne Brian of Albuquerque, New Mexico and J Wesley Harden Cathy of Clovis stepdaughters, Callalya Hudnall Wayne, Pam Seiler Tom of Lubbock, Texas, and grandchildren, Eric Hudnall, Stacy Ortiz Humberto, Blake Seiler Leilani all of Lubbock, Texas. Lorene is also survived by11 great grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 10, 2010, at 21st Street Church of Christ in Clovis with Cecil Bunch officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.
Honorary casket bearers will be her grandchildren, Sandra, Jamie, Christie, Tyler, J, Tiffany, Stacy, Blake and Eric.
Friends may come to the funeral home for visitation the casket will be closed at the service.
The family will be at 1408 Piedmont.
