T.L. Barney Barnes, age 86, of Clovis, New Mexico, passed away on February 26, 2012 at his home in Clovis, New Mexico.

Barney was born on October 27, 1925 to James H. and Ettie C. Roark Barnes in Graham, Texas. At a young age, he started working as a soda jerk. He saved his money and at age 17, bought his parents a grocery store and helped them run two different laundries. He bought his first car at age 16 for twentyfive dollars and spent twohundred and fifty dollars before it ran. He became a good, selftaught shade tree mechanic. Uncle Sam called him into service during his senior year. After serving four years and the war ending, he was asked to join the Civil Service working in the property disposal office of Government Surplus Material. He had five states under his jurisdiction. He worked 37 years in Civil Service rising to the rank of GS12. He attended church at the 16th and Pile Church of Christ and was a member of the Boy Scouts and Gideons.

Barney married Gracie Breckon on April 16, 1944 in Tatum, New Mexico. She preceded him in death on May 20, 2007. He married Lois Ashley on October 8, 2009 in Clovis, New Mexico. He is survived by his wife, Lois of the home two daughters: Joy Bobby Ough and Teri Lee Barnes L.J. both of Crowley, Texas two sons Ronnie Denise Barnes of Clovis, New Mexico and Jim Pasty Barnes of Murphresboro, Tennessee four stepdaughters: Linda Lesly of Clovis, New Mexico, Danett Bunch of Lubbock, Texas, Terry Gechter of Salina, Kansas and Sheila Russell of Burkburnett, Texas one stepson: Randall Lesly of Clovis, New Mexico nine grand children and fifteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Gracie.

Services are at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at SteedTodd Funeral Home Chapel, 800 E. Manana Blvd., Clovis, New Mexico with Rev. Wayne Boydstun officiating and Cecil Bunch assisting. Interment will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis, New Mexico

Casket Bearers are Ron Barnes, Jim Barnes, Randall Lesly, Randy Lesly, Eric Barton and Keith Henderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Baptist Childrens Home, PO Box 629, Portales, New Mexico 88130 or the Christian Childrens Home, 1356 New Mexico 236, Portales, New Mexico 88130.
