Tasso Sharp

Tasso Houston Sharp, age 99,passed away on July 30, 2013 in Portales, NM.

Tasso was born on March 6, 1914, in Greenfield Tennessee, to Ullen Tasso Sharp and Lena Sutberry Sharp. Tasso grew up in Greenfield and attended college at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee, receiving a BS in math and later a masters degree in administration. He served as a Captain in the army in World War II and the Korean War. In 1953 he moved his family to Ft. Lauderdale, FL where he was employed as the principal of Rogers Jr. High for seventeen years. He served in the field of education for over twentyfive years. After retiring, Tasso moved with his wife, Dorris, back to Greenfield, Tennessee. He enjoyed an active retirement fishing, gardening, and cooking. Tasso was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church in Greenfield. He moved to Portales, New Mexico the summer of 2003 to be near his daughters and sonsinlaw.

Tasso is survived by three daughters: Nancy Ann Foley of Clovis, NM, Karen Elizabeth Dr. Lon Alexander of Portales, NM and Susan Ellen Edd Matheny of Farmington, NM: three grandchildren: Daniel Aubrey Alexander, Michaela Alexander, and Jason Danielle Stoltz six grandchildren: Jaden, Chloe and Mia Alexander, Jocelyn and Jackson Stoltz and Kash Matheny brother: Winfred Sharp nieces: Dorris Ann Bell, LeMon McCartney and Wendy Henry nephews: Jim and Bill Denton, Stephen Sharp and Wallace Shuford great nieces Kelli Jones and Kasi Knott Darby and several wonderful great and greatgreat nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents wife, Dorris Sharp one sister: Montess Robinson grandson: Chad Matheny sistersinlaw: Maggie Shuford, Sally Sharp and LaVerne Denton brothersinlaw: John Wayne Shuford and Ted Denton nieceinlaw: Donna Shuford nephewinlaw: Bobby McCartney and soninlaw: Harry Foley.

Memorial Services will be held at Bethel Baptist Church in Greenfield, Tennessee on Sunday, September 1, 2013 at 2:30 p.m.
