Teddy Bailey

Teddy Calvin Bailey, 81, of Portales, NM has went to be with the Lord on February 21, 2018 in Clovis, NM at Genesis Rehab. He was born in a sod house in Cuervo, NM on July 3, 1936 to John and Hattie Bailey. The happiest time of his childhood is when his family moved to Vermejo Park. They then moved to Ft. Sumner, NM where he graduated high school.
Teddy volunteered for the Army draft and was chosen after boot camp to serve in the "Old Guard" 49th Infantry as an Honor Guard in Washington, DC. He was recalled to active duty during the "Cuban Crisis".
In 1960 he met Marcella Cooper, in Portales, NM. They were married January 15, 1961. They attended Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO where he received a degree with honors. For several years Ted drove trucks for Phillips 66 and pastored the Fellowship Baptist Church for 33 years.
Teddy had a love for animals. He showed goats and received many awards for them. Most of all he loved the Lord and the people of the church. His home was always available to anyone in need. He and Marcella enjoyed helping foster children and families who needed a temporary place to stay.
He is survived by his wife, Marcella Bailey of Portales, NM; daughters, Martye (Kenneth) Hileman of Weed, NM, and Debbie Martinez of Portales, NM; son, Clay Bailey of Albuquerque, NM; brother, J.C. Bailey of Ft. Sumner, NM; sisters, Georgia Kelly of Lubbock, TX, and Marie Fox of Portales, NM; grandchildren, Sheridan Hileman of Tularosa, NM, Deedee Ginther of Greeley, CO, Kendra Young of Belen, NM, Lindsey Bass of Tularosa, NM and C.J. Bailey y Lopez of Albuquerque, NM; great-grandchildren, Stetson Bass, Luke Wayne Young, Trenton Hileman, Allie Rose Hileman, Harper and Jessie Ginther. Also surviving are Tammy Reeves and family of Kansas City, KS, Sarah Hall, Bailey and Tinley of Portales, NM. Preceding his death are his parents John and Hattie Bailey; brothers Buddy and Harvey Bailey; sister, Shirley Owens and a grandson Lantz Renn Bailey.
Services will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018, 2:00pm at Grace Fellowship Baptist Church in Portales with Ron Fox officiating. Burial will follow at Portales Cemetery with military honors. Casket bearers will be Kenneth Hileman, Sheridan Hileman, Sam Bass, Cody Russell, Joe Martinez and Rocky Tivis. Honorary bearers will be Ken Brazell, Cleo Tucker, Trevor Hall, and Justin Ginther.
